RiverRenew is planning a new network of tunnels that will prevent millions of gallons of sewage mixed with rainwater from reaching Alexandria’s waterways. These tunnels will have a significant impact on the health of our waterways and environment for years to come.
Knowing these tunnels would need names that are equally lasting and meaningful, RiverRenew turned to the community for help last fall. Community members were invited to submit their best ideas online through December 1, 2018.
RiverRenew is excited to introduce...
Waterfront Tunnel and Hooffs Run Tunnel!
Waterfront Tunnel and Hooffs Run Tunnel were selected to effectively communicate the geographic location of each component of the tunnel system, while highlighting the waterbodies that the RiverRenew program is focused on restoring. These names will be used across the community at meetings and events, and will be recorded in permits, contracts, drawings and other engineering documents.
The selected names were submitted by Samantha Slaton. RiverRenew would like to thank Samantha and everyone who submitted their best ideas. With over 100 submissions received, we were wowed by the community’s creativity and support for RiverRenew. Thank you, Alexandria!
